Lenora M. Casmore, a charter member of Remembering Black Dallas, INC. and a well-versed authority on the Reconstruction history of the Dallas area, will be keynote speaker on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at the Annual Business Meeting and seminar of the nonprofit Friends of Garland's Historic Magic 11th Street.

Lenora will share about various sites in the Dallas area that were instrumental in the post-Civil War era and beyond and about certain efforts under way and already completed to make sure that this particular aspect of history is preserved and remembered. She had worked alongside RBDallas founder Dr. George E. Keaton, considered the foremost historian of Black Dallas’ past, and had been with him on many of his memorable bus tours around the various locations. Keaton died suddenly on December 7 after a brief battle with cancer.

The Annual Business Meeting will be held from 1-2 p.m. at the Granger Recreation Center, 1310 West Avenue F, situated in Garland's Central Park. Friends of Garland's Historic Magic 11th Street has held its annual meeting on Zoom for the past two years due to COVID and is moving to an in-person format in 2023. Remembering Black Dallas (RBDallas) is a nonprofit organization that preserves and promotes the African-American life, history, artifacts, and culture of Dallas.

Lenora is a Texas native who is a systems analyst by profession and an educational consultant on life matters. She holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of North Texas and an MBA in management from Amberton University. Lenora replaces Keaton, originally scheduled to be the Friends 2023 keynoter.

The Annual Business Meeting is FREE and open to the public. A brief presentation of the activities and accomplishments of Friends of Garland's Historic Magic 11th Street will occur before Lenora's presentation.

Friends is a nonprofit charitable organization that works for the betterment of Garland through historic preservation, community development, and improvement of Garland's 11th Street as well as the wider downtown area. A secondary purpose is to recognize under-recognized individuals and sites that are part of Garland's history.
